Product development: Assisted with prototype debugging and testing of a surge control system for turbine driven gas compressors. The development process (on one of the first microprocessor-based controllers) had bogged down with unreliable operation of the industrial computer system. A key holdup was intermittent faults in the ROM and RAM memory controller. With critical projects pending, the engagement targeted both meeting the eminent deliveries as well as resolving problems for mass production of the custom circuit boards.
The consulting work involved identifying and measuring precise timing pulses within the memory controller, and with the associated digital/analog interface to the turbine. Once the problems were identified and resolved, further work involved improving component specifications for key component and circuit board suppliers used for ongoing product production.
