Product development: Complete design, programming, and fabrication of a dynamic positioning system (DPS) interface on a self-powered dredge barge. The industrial computer-based system interfaced with a precision gyro compass, shipboard weather instruments, and the ship's speed and direction sensors. Programming was provided to coordinate the various inputs to produce guidance signals for the DPS.
The system was fabricated using COTS computers and sensors coupled with a specially fabricated sensor and protocol conversion unit. The prototype unit was developed as a standard design used within the company's entire fleet.
