Patent Infringement: US patent 5,038,318, sometimes referred to as Solaia '318, related to data interchange between a programmable logic controller (PLC) and a spreadsheet program operating within a personal computer. The related infringement actions involved systems using Human Man Intefaces (HMI) as well non-HMI related interactions. The forensic evaluation included extensive prior art research, claim term intrerpretation, and infringement analysis for systems from several key manufacturers. Adiditional consulting was also provided to the US Department of Justice. The Solaia Patent is often referenced in regard to "patent troll" litigation.
