System Performance: The reliable operation of a high-rise elevator system was affected by the nearby installation of a commercial radio antenna. The microprocessor-based control system was installed in steel cabinets that had provided radio frequency (RF) shielding for many years. The intermittent interference caused by a new antenna installation caused elevators to malfunction in several modes. The investigation and analysis involved the elevator controls, power system, radio transmitter, and antenna installation.
