Patent infringement: A system using multiple small computers to monitor high volume realtime mainframe computer transactions. Typical applications include call centers as well as computer-to-computer data exchanges as found in stock trades and airline reservation systems.
The patent infringement issues focused on configuration of the monitoring computer(s) which tracked and verified mainframe activity in real time. Of key interest were the hardware and software modifications of standard personal computers to process the mainframe message activity.
The dispute resulted in a trial that went to verdict in US Federal Court.
