Industrial accident: ground fault damage to an 8,000Hp variable speed motor in an automated steel mill. The fault current and equivalent insulation resistance was monitored and recorded by a programmable logic system. The forensic analysis involved PLC ladder logic and the programming of related networked controllers in response to specific levels of fault current combined with time delays and frequency of occurrence.
